Apple Swap their Tiger for a Leopard

Apple will shortly be releasing its hotly tipped Leopard operating system, which Mac lovers have been eagerly awaiting for months. The operating system was originally scheduled for release in June, although it was pushed back to give the company more time to dedicate to their successful iPhone.

When it's finally made available in stores, Mac fans will soon realise that this system is worth the wait. Leopard is similar to Tiger, which was Mac’s previous system. However, it has been refined and enhanced with a number of improvements and the addition of new applications. Because of this, Walt Mossberg, a veteran technology writer, wrote in the Wall Street Journal that the software was “evolutionary, not revolutionary.”

One of Leopard’s most notable new features is Time Machine, which promises to automatically back up your files. Apple is also keen to tout Stacks, which is a handy feature to unclutter your desktop. Stacks works by grouping related folders and files together automatically. All in all, Leopard’s handy and innovative tools succeed in making the simple system even easier to use.

Apple’s marketing team are keen to exploit its ease of use, particularly as so many PC users were disappointed with Microsoft Vista. In a comparison of the two, Mossberg said: “In my opinion, Leopard is better and faster than Vista, with a set of new features that make Macs even easier to use.” Because of this, Apple are hoping that many disgruntled Vista users will trade their PC in for a Mac. In the three months prior to the end of September, there were 2.2 million Mac sales – their highest ever shipment. However, if their plan to convert Vista users works, they may soon break that record once more.

The Leopard launch rounds off a great week for Apple. Just a few days ago, the company reported record profits thanks to their iPhone, which has yet to be launched in the UK.
